Phillip Island "critical" to bird species

Phillip Island plays a "critical role" in the survival of the fairy tern, a threatened bird species, producing about a third of new chicks born in Victoria in the past decade and the only place with such breeding success.

The Western Port Biosphere last week released a report on the fairy tern population at Observation Point, east of Cowes, showing artificial intelligence was even helping to provide a "safe haven".
