Police update: December 10, 2025
Police update on Schoolies, dodgy builder warning, current investigations in Cowes and Grantville.
Schoolies
It was an A+ for behaviour for this year's schoolies, according to Bass Coast police, who said there were no significant incidents reported to police over the last two weeks.
"Police wish to congratulate all school leavers who attended Phillip Island in recent weeks," said Acting Senior Sergeant Adrian Condron, Bass Coast Police.
"Police working the event appreciated all the respectful interactions we had, and the consideration shown to local residents while celebrating.
"We're now turning our focus to the Christmas holiday period and New Year's Eve celebrations," he said.
"Local residents can expect to see an increased police presence in the Phillip Island and Inverloch areas.
"We wish everyone residing in Bass Coast or visiting our lovely area a very Merry Christmas and a safe New Year."
Unregistered builder
Bass Coast Eyewatch Facebook page has issued a warning about an unregistered builder undertaking building work in the area.
"This person had undertaken work which was below quality and didn't have the required council approvals," police stated.
Many tradespeople are required to be registered to undertake work, and more details on these registration requirements can be found at: www.consumer.vic.gov.au
Consumer Affairs Victoria and the Building and Plumbing Commission routinely publish warnings about people who have been previously prosecuted for undertaking fraudulent work, and many of these records can be found on an internet search.
"Please be diligent, and take steps to prevent being scammed,' warned the police.
"This may involve asking for referrals from friends or family, looking at work history or past jobs undertaken, asking for proof of registration, and conscientiously checking details that are provided.
"A few minutes searching might save you a lot of money and months and years of court process."
Bicycle theft
Police are investigating the theft of two bicycles which occurred at an educational facility in Cowes on November 23.
It is alleged that at about 5am, two people entered the grounds of the educational facility and stole the two bicycles, riding them away.
Police have released video footage on the Eyewatch Facebook page of two people who might be able to assist the investigation.
If you know who these people are, please contact Crime Stoppers Victoria on 1800 333 000 or at: www.crimestoppersvic.com.au/report-a-crime/

Grantville robbery
Police are investigating a series of criminal damages and thefts which occurred at a quarry on Grantville-Glen Alvie Road at Grantville.
Police believe people drove onto the property on October 18 and 19, forced entry and tools and other items were stolen.
Images of three people and a vehicle have been posted on the Bass Coast Eyewatch page, which police believe may assist with their investigation.
