A possum – now deceased – was to blame for a series of quick power outages in Cowes on Sunday morning.

Residents reported hearing two loud bangs, followed by lights going on and off six times.

An AusNet spokesperson said the Automatic Circuit Recloser tripped at 5.25am.

“This is a protection device that opens and shuts, interrupting supply.

“This is likely to be the noise people heard, as it makes a noise each time its energised.

“We had a crew attend first thing in the morning and a possum (now deceased) was found to have caused the issue. No-one was off supply during this time.”
