Prom Recitals captures hearts and minds of South Gippsland
Prom Recitals aims to bring professional classical music recitals to South Gippsland audiences.
Prom Recitals is a not-for-profit organisation aiming to bring professional classical music recitals to South Gippsland audiences.
Concerts to date have sold out well in advance of the performance, and an initial offering of Prom Recitals membership packages has been enthusiastically taken up by local music lovers, despite Covid lockdown restrictions forcing the rescheduling of some events in the 2021 program.
“We believe live music should be accessible to our local community, and we especially want to support small group classical ensembles by presenting their music in some of Prom Country’s iconic local public buildings” said Prom Recitals’ Mark Avery.
In addition to presenting concerts and recitals, Prom Recitals is on a mission to connect with young South Gippslanders who love classical music. Plans are underway to contribute to education and community initiatives though prizes, workshops, masterclasses, residencies and scholarship opportunities for local classical music students.
“We’d love to see Prom Recitals harness some of the passion and delight that we, and our audiences, take in classical music to nurture and grow the interest of young people in our community and provide support to help them realise their musical potential.” said committee member Dianne Berryman.
“If you’re a teacher of classical music in South Gippsland we’d love to hear from you.”
By the end of 2021 (Covid permitting) the committee hopes concerts will have been presented in the community halls of Sandy Point, Meeniyan, Buffalo and the Foster War Memorial Arts Centre.
Two extraordinary concerts are scheduled for October and December.
“Bach To Bartók” featuring Oliver Dennis and Roseanne Hunt at Buffalo Hall Community Centre on October 9 at 7.30pm has sold out, based on current Covid seating regulations.
Roseanne and Oliver will play a program of violin and cello solos and duos including some of Bach’s most beloved works for solo violin and cello. A wait list is open for anyone who would like to try for a seat if one becomes available at www.trybooking.com/BSUHA
On December 5, Sharon and Slava Grigoryan appear at the Foster War Memorial Arts Centre at 2.30pm and tickets are selling fast.
Each of the Grigoryans is a formidable musical talent, with Slava an acknowledged guitar master on the world stage and Sharon a sought-after cellist in Australia’s major orchestras and chamber music ensembles, including her recent seven-year tenure with the Australian String Quartet.
The concert will span many cultures and generations from famous works for guitar and cello by Vivaldi, Granados, Piazzolla and a selection of contemporary and new compositions from their 2020 ARIA nominated debut album “Our Place”. Tickets are $55 at www.trybooking.com/BTEZM
Prom Recital’s plans for the 2022 schedule includes a program of diverse performances in community halls, as well as intimate house concerts, with an already sold-out event scheduled for February 2022 at a unique private home at Hazel Park.
Membership of Prom Recitals offers access to early bird ticket sales and after concert events to meet the artists with a complimentary glass of local wine. The current membership offer is a one-off $50 subscription for 18 months (expiring December 2022).
