Brinnie T Design launches a design studio in Cowes, bringing city design to the coast.

Brinnie T founder Jo and her family made the transition from Melbourne’s busy city life to Cowes ten years ago and made it home. On the back of divorce, she rose from the ashes of domestic violence to create something truly special.

With a background in administration and finance management, Jo embraced what had always been a passion by retraining in Interior Design and started her own practice.

Her first studio opened on Thompson Avenue a month before the Covid global pandemic, but not only did the business survive, it adapted and created something new and fresh for the island. The studio became a homewares and gift store offering a curated selection of unique and luxury products, each with their own story to tell.

During the pandemic, Jo was selected to be a part of The Good Incubator program – a government funded initiative to assist persons with a disability to start or grow their own business. This program gave her the confidence to not only continue through an unprecedented time of business challenge but to grow.

Fast forward two years and Jo has created another unique offering to her community, now launching her dedicated design studio in The Concourse which is set to be a regional design hub.

“Living in a regional area is difficult for locals wanting not only to renovate their homes, but to do so in a way that supports local business and trades as well as making selections that bring something special to the table,” says Jo.

“Added to that, the island has seen a tremendous shift in the local population over the last 10 years. That shift during the pandemic, as people left the city in such large numbers, has seen an explosion in people wanting to renovate their homes.”

Brinnie T Design works closely with local businesses such as South Coast Furniture and Flooring Xtra, Elegance Tiles, Reece, Haymes Paint shop, Lightique and more.

“Instead of having to go from one shop to the next to make your selections, our studio is designed to bring all of that together in one location,” explained Jo.

Brinnie T Design goes on to bring the city to the country by offering so much more than has been seen here before.

Wallpapers from Australian designer Kerrie Brown or UK designers Divine Savages are amongst many samples that can be seen in her studio. Fabrics from Australian brand Warwick though to international brands such as Schumacher, Misia, William Morris and more can also be chosen from an extensive range for both drapery and upholstery.

On display you’ll find a range of custom-made bedheads to suit your style, as well as linen too, or work with the team to find that perfect furniture or rug selection. The studio showcases artwork including that of Gippsland artist Fiona Kennedy.

Bathroom products from ADP Australia sit alongside new sensation Eight Quarters and ABI Interiors.  Perhaps Perrin & Rowe are on your wish list? All budgets can be catered for in-house. Choose these whilst making selections from Polytec and Laminex cabinetry colours, pulling together tiles and choosing handles. Australian and international stone and porcelain solid surfaces also take pride of place. Brinnie T Design is also excited to be able to bring American high end paint brand Benjamin Moore to the table.

Designing for Diversity is close to Jo’s heart. She continues her research on designing for Autism, with a range of accessible bathroom supports on display that work beautifully within a design rather than against it.

To that end, Jo has now been asked to assist in the delivery of next years’ Good Incubator Program as well as taking part in an initiative from Monash University in the creation of video course material to be available to differently abled young high school students learning to pitch themselves.

Brinnie T Design is proud to be able to bring to the community a comprehensive offering of product and service.

Whether it is a straightforward order for wallpaper, the re-upholstery of a loved piece of furniture, purchase of a basin, or new handles, right through to one off consultations or full renovation projects.

The new design studio celebrates its official opening on September 17.
