San Remo sings
Santa is one of the many special guests appearing at San Remo Carols on the Foreshore on December 15, starting at 5pm.

The long tradition of San Remo Carols will continue on Friday December 15 on the San Remo Foreshore.

The San Remo Newhaven Lions Club formerly coordinated the community event, however the club folded last year.

The San Remo District Tourism and Business Association has stepped in to take up the running of the popular community event.

Vice President Paul Cooper said the association believed the event was too important for the local community to let it go.

“This year, we have a whole new program with the Laing Bros performing along with Bern Carroll and Imogen Price,” Mr Cooper said.

“We also have Asha McMahon and Lachie Owen from Bass Coast College and the popular performance from the primary schools and kindergartens in San Remo and Newhaven.”

The program starts from 5pm with a super-screen on site to entertain the community before Santa arrives on the fire truck at 6pm.

The school performances are schedule from 6.30pm.

Mr Cooper has been the MC over the past few carols nights and will resume the role this year.

“It’s such a wonderful event to see the community take time out from the stresses of costs of living increases and interest rate rises, and just relax and enjoy a free evening of community celebration,” Mr Cooper said.

This year will be a combination of traditional carols and popular Christmas songs.

In-between the on-stage performances more traditional carols will play on the big screen with the words also provided so it will be easy to sing along.

“To close the night, we will have the Laing Bros who are very popular in the Bass Coast often performing at the local pubs and venues as well as Moto GP weekend,” Paul said.

“We must also thank the ongoing support of the Bass Coast Shire Council, the Bendigo Community Bank, Westernport Water and of course the traders for making the night possible through their sponsorship and support.”

San Remo Carols by the Bay will be held on the San Remo Foreshore from 5pm to 9.15pm this Friday December 15.
