Senior Citizens’ Club fun continues
Winner of the main prize at the Senior Citizens’ Father’s Day lunch was David Garrett, and the committee is promising the biggest raffle of the year at its Christmas lunch in December.

Following on from the success of its Father’s Day luncheon, the Phillip Island Senior Citizens’ Club is busy organising every aspect of its Christmas lunch.

Secretary Liza Lee encouraged everyone to book in early for the popular event.

“We are now taking names for our Christmas lunch, so if you're a member and want to be part of the celebrations don't forget to book with me on 0431 867 058,” she said.

Members can look forward to the biggest raffle of the year, with fantastic prizes already being sourced from local businesses.

These include Phillip Island Ten Pin Bowling, Grumpy’s Mini Golf, Maru Park, Phillip Island Winery, The Coffee Co and the French Island General Store.

“We'd also like to acknowledge and thank some of the local businesses who donate regularly throughout the year including the Phillip Island Bakery, Putters Cafe at the Cowes Golf Club, The RSL and Priceline to name just a few,” said Liza.

“Our members are so excited each month with the choice of prizes on offer.

“Our raffle sales have increased tenfold which helps out our club enormously with our day-to-day operations.”

In less happy news, at the start of the school holidays, thieves stole the Australian flag from the flagpole outside the club, and also attempted to break into the club.

Unfortunately both the flagpole and the clubhouse front door were damaged.

“Ian Burns our Treasurer/cleaner/maintenance person and gardener managed to fix the door,” said Liza.

“And we have a new flag coming soon.”

However the theft and attempted break in hasn’t deterred the club, which is offering some fantastic events in the coming months.

“At our October lunch we have the gadget lady with all our favourite stuff to help make daily life easier,” Liza said.

“While in November we have a Gippsland local who is an expert in all things Melbourne Cup, bringing his paraphernalia and stories of local horses.

“And of course in December we have our big Christmas lunch.”

To book in for lunch, or if you're new and want to join in on all the fun, call secretary Liza on 0431 867 058 so you don't miss out.
