Bass Coast Shire will "rectify" the new seats installed on a gravity defying lean in the Cowes main street as part of the Thompson Avenue upgrade.
Social media lit up last week after photos showed the seating to be sloping northward, rather than installed on an even level.
Local landscape gardener Roger, who posted the photos, suggested townships normally do not install "seats going downhill sideways", adding they should have been level and preferably on an angle to take in views of the bay, rather than facing shops.
Roger also cautioned that rainfall will drain towards shops.
Council contractors have responded by saying they had worked in construction and "all they needed to do was split the seats into two sets and level them".
A shire spokesperson told the Advertiser council is "aware of the issue and is working with our contractor to rectify it as soon as possible".
This major project is being delivered through $8 million funding from the Australian Government's Regional Precincts and Partnerships Program and $1.6 million from Bass Coast Shire.
