With the cricket season commencing this Saturday, November 7 after a disrupted winter due to COVID-19, the PIDCC has established a clear pathway for players to learn the game of cricket and have fun.

Keeping kids active in a family-focused environment is a key focus of the club community.

In addition to providing a game for all youngsters, the club pathway is designed to connect with representative cricket for those who may aspire to higher levels of the sport.

During the season, promising, committed players will be nominated to attend Leongatha and District Cricket Association (LDCA) trials for regional representative teams that can lead into the Cricket

Victoria and Cricket Australia player pathway programs.

In this way, the PIDCC aims to build the community of active cricketers and to provide opportunities for committed players who show promise.

All players at the club are exposed to structured practice activities and match simulations, aimed at maximising activity, enjoyment, and learning.

For boys and girls from the Woolies Blasters, to U12, U14, U16, and the U20 Transition Squad, to the four senior teams, the intention is to provide continuous contact with the ball, whether fielding, wicket keeping, bowling or batting.

Regular repetition enables players to develop skills that enable players to succeed in cricket, which, as a high-speed ball sport, can be quite challenging.

All are looking forward to Saturday’s start of the season.

And, Come-n-Try sessions for Girls to engage in cricket will be offered in November and December, with matches to be arranged in the LDCA in early 2021.

Then we may see girls from the Island connecting with the fabulously successful Australian Women’s Cricket programs.
