Spring award for Rhyll residents
Spring is here, and so too is the popular Rhyll Garden of the Month award.
Spring is here, and so too is the popular Rhyll Garden of the Month award.
The first 2023 award was presented to Gabrielle and John Mahoney, whose beautiful garden was voted the most popular for September.
John and Gabbi win a $100 Blue Gum voucher for all their hard work.
The Rhyll Community Association has been running the Garden of the Month awards for the last five years and with many more houses enhancing their gardens, the competition has become increasingly difficult for the judges.
“This year has been the toughest of all,” Mary-Lu Burt, who is the co-ordinator of the committee, said.
“We have had so many gardens to look at and we think they all deserve a prize!”
Luckily the Garden of the Month has two more months to go and some of those other beautiful gardens will have the chance to also win the coveted title.
The judges said Gabrielle and John’s lovely garden design complements their attractive house, and the planting takes into account competition for water from two beautiful mature eucalypts.
“The striking purple flowers of the native hibiscus and the fresh green foliage of the informal hedge of hop goodenia on the nature strip sparkle in September sunshine,” noted the judges.
“These and other Australian flowering plants attract bees, butterflies and other pollinators. The garden is always beautifully tended and admired by their Rhyll neighbours.”
The Association thanked Blue Gum Nursery and The Rotary Club of Phillip Island and San Remo for their continued support.
