Stage two speed review rolled out, Cowes-Rhyll Road to come

While many residents were last week taken by surprise by the rollout of residential speed reductions around Phillip Island, community groups have long been lobbying for a review of high-speed unsealed, rural gravel roads, which had a default speed limit of 100km/hr.

Since 2018 the roadkill on the Cowes-Rhyll Road has been monitored as part of a citizen science project that is likely to see the rollout of variable speeds next year. So far this year the road has had 121 kills in about 20 species, with bandicoots a newcomer to the tally at 16 so far.
