Strong partnerships make a strong community – and you’re part of it!
Secretary-Treasurer Andrew Page and President Michael Newton from the San Remo-Newhaven Lions present a Certificate of Appreciation to San Remo, Cowes and Grantville Community Bank Chair Peter Paul, with Kim Grinham from the San Remo branch and Director Bruce Procter.

The San Remo-Newhaven Lions presented the San Remo Community Bendigo Bank with a certificate of appreciation this week, in recognition of 19 years of collaboration.

The San Remo Community Bendigo Bank has supported the San Remo-Newhaven Lions Club since the bank opened in June 2003. In return, the San Remo-Newhaven Lions club was also one of the San Remo Community banks first shareholders and customers.

“It’s a long-standing community partnership that has enabled both groups to do great things for the community,” Chair Peter Paul commented.

“The Channel Challenge, San Remo Carols by Candlelight, all these great events are possible because of partnerships like these.”

President of the Lions Club Michael Newton termed the relationship as a financial boomerang, albeit one that only seeks to help the community.

“The Bendigo Bank supports us to run an event, the community then donates to us at the event, and then all monies raised go back to the community, whether through our support of the San Remo SES and CFA or the San Remo kindergarten and San Remo and Newhaven primary schools.

“It really is a win-win for the those that live, work and visit here.”

The San Remo Community Bank will be meeting with the San Remo Lions again at the bank’s Sponsorship Information Night, at 6pm on Tuesday, April 5 at the Phillip Island Bowls Club in Cowes.

“If you’re part of a community group, sporting club or school affiliated with any of our branches in San Remo, Cowes or Grantville, we really encourage you to get along and learn more about applying for sponsorship in 2022,” Peter added.

So next time you buy a delicious San Remo Lions fruitcake when you’re at the San Remo branch, or buy a sizzling sausage from a San Remo Lion at a Community Bank sponsored event, remember – you’re doing your bit to help your local community, and are just as much a part of the 19 year partnership as the San Remo-Newhaven Lions and San Remo Community Bank are themselves.
