Successful week for Sharks - B1 grade

B1 grade

Round 4 saw the B1 Sharks take on the Imperials at Newhaven.

Imps won the toss, and the Island were sent into field.

Young-guns Jobe Williams and Harry Arceo took the new rock for the Sharks and bowled an absolute treat.

The two stuck to their lines and lengths and were well supported by their teammates in the field.

After battling away, Harry cleaned up the dangerous Imperials opener for the Sharks’ first wicket.

Jobe followed in the next over, with Club President “Tinman” Andrew Finlayson swallowing one with the gloves.

Harry came close to a second wicket but was let down by his brother, who put down a sharp chance at short cover.

The boys were quick to let Max know who the better Arceo was in the team.

The young opening bowlers finished off their eight over spells, ending up with 1/21 and 1/27 respectively.

Dave Womersley and skipper Kurt Lane kept up the great bowling, whilst Connor “Walrus” Epifano contributed with some mobile fielding efforts.

The Imperials became their own worst enemy, with two disastrous runouts.

Dave was extremely tidy with the ball, ending up with 2/8 off four, “Tinman” Finlayson and Kohen Beaumont assisting him with good catches.

The skipper was joined by A-Aron Brayley who also bowled well.

Consistent wickets fell, despite Henry ‘Crackle’ Peppard struggling out at cow-corner due to a few rabbit holes.

The skipper led from the front, ending up with 3/25 off his eight, whilst A-Aron cleaned up a tailender with figures of 1/14.

An excellent bowling and fielding performance from the Sharks with Imperials all out for 106.

After a well-deserved afternoon tea break, the Sharks began their batting innings with the dangerous combination of Epifano and Beaumont.

Unfortunately, Connor feathered one to the keeper in the first over without troubling the scorers, coming back to the sheds claiming that the Imp’s opening bowler was the next Brett Lee.

President Finlayson was quick to remind him that opening batsmen are in fact allowed to leave the ball.

Kohen was joined by Tom “Blackers” Blackwell and the two knocked a few runs around before Kohen was caught for 9.

Dave “Dogga” Womersley came in at number four and along with Blackwell, steadied the ship a bit for the Sharks.

Womersley’s innings then ended, and in came the skipper, Kurt Lane – this is when the show began.

Kurt had Big-Bash scouts interested after smashing 58 off 29 balls including a lazy 10 boundaries.

Blackwell stuck with the skipper before being bowled for a well-made 15.

The Imps boys finally held a chance that Kurt produced, ending his brutal boundary fest.

At this stage, the score was 5/90.

“Pork crackle” Peppard and Harry Arceo’s brother (Max) slowly finished the job for the Sharks.

They chased down the required 17 runs in about five times as many balls as Kurt would have required.

Henry and Max walked off with 6 (n/o) and 5 (n/o) respectively, handing the Sharks the win.

A very solid team performance from the B1 boys and a 2-0 start to the season.
