Round 4 saw B2 play a home game at Newhaven College against Nerrena.
Phillip Island won the toss and chose to bat first.
Matt Parsons opened the batting with Ollie Duggan who has secured his spot as an opening batsman.
Batting was hard going with the Nerrena opening bowler bowling full and straight, giving Phillip Island nothing to work with.
Matt Parsons went out cheaply as did Peter Francis.
Ollie and Tony Hornsby tried to keep ticking the runs along, but with tight bowling and an extremely slow out field it was an extremely challenging task.
At drinks Phillip Island were 3/31.
With a lot of work to do Ollie and Tony went out not long after lunch making 19 and 12 respectively.
Daniel McCausland and Tarryn Allan tried to keep the runs ticking over, but with Dan going out for 15 and Tarryn for 22 it was up to Pete Clearly and Andrew Tolley to get us to a defendable total.
Pete finishing 40-not-out and Andrew finishing 10-not-out getting Phillip Island to a respectable 135.
After tea Phillip Island went into bowl.
Matt Parsons opened the bowling again and got an early wicket with the second ball of the innings.
With the wind causing grief for the bowlers, Nerrena started a great partnership and the next breakthrough wicket didn’t come till the 17th over when Tarryn got a wicket of the other Nerrena opener with an incredible catch from Junior Zack Hughes.
The veteran Tony Hornsby came on and got a wicket first ball to give Phillip Island some hope of defending the total.
Peter Francis and Andrew Tolley bowled extremely well late, to try and keep Nerrena away from 135 but it wasn’t enough with Nerrena chasing 135 with two overs left.
Great effort by all but just fell short.
Off to Bass next week to get back on the winners list.
