Nineteen local not-for-profit organisations, including community groups, sports clubs, and schools received almost $44,000 in sponsorship funding through Westernport Water's Community Support Program.

Recipients were invited to a cheque presentation event last month to celebrate the hard work and great ideas of these mostly volunteer community groups.

"I congratulate all the recipients of our Community Support Program and deeply appreciate the volunteers who took the time to apply," said Dona Tantirimudalige, Managing Director of Westernport Water.

"This year, we received more applications than ever, making the decision particularly challenging.

"At Westernport Water, we take great pride in supporting our community. We have a long history of doing so, with our support dating back to our early beginnings in the 1960s.

The program is one of Westernport Water's key community engagement initiatives, designed to support projects that benefit the wider community and build positive change across the themes of Healthy People, Healthy Communities, and a Healthy Planet.

"Our annual community sponsorship provides about $50K annually plus in-kind support, to help the outstanding efforts of community volunteers, non-profit groups, and schools to make positive social and environmental change," said Ms Tantirimudalige.

Successful applicants have been awarded sponsorship funding to support local events and a range of projects such as drinking fountains, water-saving devices, revegetation, and efforts related to environment and water conservation.
