Local surfers says they regularly rescue swimmers from dangerous conditions.

Phillip Island surfer Steve Fullarton was himself rescued from the surf near Forrest Caves by a fellow surfer in 2021, after suffering a stroke. In 2017, as a Bass Coast Shire councillor, Steve said: “The Forrest Caves beach is incredibly unsafe and lifesavers can’t service it. I wouldn’t like uneducated people swimming there.”
