The Island Whale Festival is set to make a spectacular return in 2026, celebrating a major milestone - 10 years since its inaugural event.
Over the past decade, the festival has grown into one of regional Victoria's premier marine conservation and sustainability events, drawing visitors from across the state and beyond to witness the magic of the annual whale migration.
While the festival has evolved in scale and creativity, its purpose remains unchanged: to inspire, educate and connect people with the incredible marine life that visits the waters surrounding Phillip Island each winter.
The festival continues to be curated by a passionate collective of organisations and individuals, including three of the foundation contributors: Dave Donnelly from the Dolphin Research Institute and Two Bays Whale Project, Dr Sue Mason alongside Mikala Peters from Wildlife Coast Cruises.
Their long-standing commitment has helped shape the festival into the celebrated event it is today.
Destination Phillip Island joined in the early years, strengthening the festival's reach and impact.
Ongoing support from Bass Coast Shire Council - through its Events, Visitor Information Centre and Cultural Venues teams - has further enabled the festival's continued growth and success. Phillip Island Nature Parks also provide ongoing support for the event.
Adding to the Festival's vibrant atmosphere, local graphic artist Zev Landes continues to bring the event to life through creative activations that engage and inspire audiences of all ages.
In 2026, Serena Cabello returns as Event Director, leading a dedicated and passionate committee.
The team recently celebrated significant industry recognition, with the festival awarded Gold at the 2025 Victorian Tourism Awards and named a finalist at the Australian Tourism Awards in March 2026 - cementing its reputation as a standout regional event.
Visitors can look forward to an exciting program of experiences, from family-friendly activities and interactive exhibits to expert talks, coastal adventures and opportunities to witness whales in their natural environment.
Save the date: July 3-5, with a series of lead-up events adding to the excitement in the weeks prior.
