Testing site on the move
The drive through site at Wonthaggi Hospital has moved to the old Wonthaggi Secondary College Senior Campus in McBride Street.
The Wonthaggi Covid testing site has a new home.
Due to renovations, the drive through site at the Wonthaggi Hospital has moved to the old Wonthaggi Secondary College Senior Campus in McBride Street.
Bass Coast Health CEO Jan Child thanked the Education Department for providing access to the former campus.
“This is a good site which gives us greater capacity, as well as the capacity for walk-in tests,” she said.
The new drive through opened on Monday, with access via Watt Street.
Ms Child thanked the Events Ops Group, who helped get the site prepared.
“A huge thank you to Jock and Jess from Event Ops Group who looked at a myriad of sites with Council, and for getting all the sheds and tent and lease and security sorted. Thank you to Trevor Bowling from TS Construction for organising to fix the concrete so that we can run two lanes and six testing teams when it gets busy.”
Ms Child reserved her highest praise for the testing site staff.
“Biggest thanks to our amazing Testing team who continue in their level 3 PPE, day in and day out, to test our community and keep us all safe.”
She urged people to get tested if they had even the mildest of symptoms, saying areas neighbouring Bass Coast, such as Baw Baw, were seeing increasing case numbers.
She also warned people who were fully vaccinated not to become complacent.
“Even if people are double vaxxed, they can still get Covid, and they can still spread it.”
New Wonthaggi Testing Tent: Watt Street, Wonthaggi (former McBride Campus of Wonthaggi Secondary College), open 9am-5pm, 7 days a week.
Cowes Testing Tent: Cowes Transit Station, Chapel Street, Cowes, 9am-3pm, 7 days a week.
