Prince Philip took an unscheduled stroll along the Cowes pier during his 1973 visit to the island.
The death of Prince Philip has prompted many stories and recollections, including some close to home!
Local historian John Jansson unearthed this record of the Prince’s visit to Phillip Island back in 1973. John recalls being invited to a garden party held in Melbourne for the royal visitor, where he was invited as a member of the Conservation Society.
Unfortunately John didn’t get to meet Prince Philip, but according to this newspaper report, over 300 people did get a chance to chat and wave to the Prince, during an unscheduled walk along the Cowes pier.
