This ANZAC Day, join with the RSL
Phillip Island RSL invites the community to come together this ANZAC Day
Phillip Island RSL invites the community to come together this ANZAC Day, Saturday April 25, to honour, reflect, and pay tribute to the service and sacrifice of our veterans and service personnel.
ANZAC Day remains one of the most significant dates on the Australian calendar.
“It is a time for quiet reflection, gratitude, and community connection, as we acknowledge those who have served and continue to serve our nation,” an RSL spokesperson said.
Following the 6am Dawn Service at the Cowes Cenotaph, the Phillip Island RSL will open its doors to welcome veterans, members, families, and visitors throughout the day.
A Gunfire Breakfast will be available from 7am to 8am, offering an opportunity for the community to gather and share in tradition.
Veterans will be hosted free of charge, while adults and children are invited to attend for a $5 donation, with proceeds supporting Veteran welfare initiatives.
The commemorations continue with the ANZAC Day March assembling at 10.40am at Erehwon Point, followed by the 11am Service at the Cowes Cenotaph, providing further opportunity for the community to stand together in remembrance.
Later in the day, a Roast Lunch will be served from 12pm to 2pm.
Veterans will again dine as guests of the Club, with meals available to the public at $15 per adult and $10 per child.
Please note, no alternative food service will be available during this time.
From 5pm, the Bistro will reopen with its regular à la carte dinner service, welcoming guests to continue the day in a relaxed and respectful setting.
“Phillip Island RSL encourages all members of the community to take part in this important day.
Whether attending a service, sharing a meal, or simply pausing for reflection, every gesture contributes to keeping the ANZAC spirit alive.”

Challenge coins
Phillip Island RSL is proud to unveil a new initiative that brings together history, camaraderie, and a touch of time-honoured tradition.
In collaboration with President, Ray Young, it has introduced Challenge Coins – The Exchange.
“Challenge Coins have long held significance within the Australian Defence Force and allied services,” the RSL spokesperson explained.
“Traditionally, they represent unity, loyalty, and shared experience among those who have served.
Often exchanged between members, these coins carry both meaning and a sense of belonging.
“There’s also a well-known bit of folklore attached … if challenged to produce your coin and you couldn’t, you’d be the one shouting the next round.”
Now, Phillip Island RSL is bringing that tradition into a local setting, creating something that honours service while strengthening community ties.
“This initiative has been carefully developed to reflect our values and to create meaningful connections between veterans, members, and the wider community.
“We are grateful to have received support from ANZAC House, including approval to feature the official ANZAC Appeal logo on our commemorative coin,” the spokesperson said.
“Despite tight production timeframes leading into this year’s Appeal, we successfully launched the first release as part of the 2026 ANZAC Appeal.
While initial numbers were limited, the response has been incredibly encouraging.
“Looking ahead, there is strong interest in expanding the initiative, with other RSL’s already showing enthusiasm in adopting a similar approach.
“There is also potential for Challenge Coins to become part of future Remembrance Day Appeals, further embedding this tradition within our commemorative activities.”
More than just a keepsake, these coins represent shared stories, service, and connection across generations.
And yes … they may also come in handy next time you’re at the bar.

“It is an exciting time for Phillip Island RSL as we continue to honour the past while building meaningful connections for the future.”
