Volunteering at PICAL
With approximately 90 volunteers on its database, PICAL relies on the extraordinary contribution of volunteers to perform its vital services for the community.

Phillip Island Community and Learning Centre (PICAL) is fortunate to have a strong volunteer participation rate. And our community is the beneficiary of all the volunteers as they provide most of the services offered at PICAL.

PICAL has approximately 90 volunteers on their database. Around 70 of them would be active each fortnight volunteering at least one shift. The volunteers contribute around 300 volunteer hours each week. It's clear the volunteers have a huge impact on the work undertaken by PICAL and the community they serve.

PICAL volunteers are empowered and trained to operate freely. Coordinator positions are formalised that lead the main areas of reception, pantry, garden and cooking teams. These coordinator roles provide the reference point for each of the teams, and a vehicle to ensure that everyone is included and involved in the day-to-day operations.

Other specialist volunteer roles exist such as grant writing, education, social planet administrator/room hire, NDIS research, maintenance, pantry drivers, partnerships and volunteer coordinator.

Centre Manager David Rooks expresses his huge thanks to all the volunteers. "It's very rewarding seeing volunteers, with their wealth of education and experience, working at their high level of capacity."

Recognising the theme for this year's National Volunteer Week is 'Something for Everyone', the PICAL volunteer offer aligns well.

"Our offer is unique as there are a myriad of different roles available requiring different skills, interests and experience," said David.

Should anyone wish to volunteer at PICAL please go to www.pical.org.au to register your interest or contact reception on 03 5952 1131.
