The deplorable state of the football oval at the Cowes Recreation Reserve has been challenging for PIFNC throughout 2024.

This Under 16 player is looking forward to a long footy career with PIFNC, starting with a Grand Final match on Saturday; but he will be 35 before a second footy oval is developed under the Bass Coast Shire Council’s Recreation Strategy for Phillip Island. His joy at the $300,000 turf refurbishment of the Cowes oval over summer this year was short lived, when it spectacularly failed within months of its completion. Cause: According to PIFNC president Chris Ross: ”We are catering for almost 600 players. There are simply too many people using it.” Remedy: “We need a second oval now … and not in 20 years’ time as council currently decrees.”
