San Remo Primary welcomed the 2021 prep class last week.

While the big day was all about the kids, a coffee cart was also on hand to provide a much-needed coffee for parents.

Principal Karen Bowker said enrolments were up for the year, with 30 students starting in Prep and total enrolments now at 159.

Over the holidays, the school’s playgrounds had a makeover, with new bark and some equipment replaced.

A working bee by parents also ensured the school was looking its very best for the start of Term 1.

Ms Bowker said the school had welcomed two new educational support staff, Adrieene Brown and Deserae Wilkins.

Top marks

Ms Bowker also revealed a school review at the end of 2020 highlighted the quality teaching and learning delivered to students.

“We were also complemented on our community spirit, the way that our children are engaged in their learning and the high standard of inclusion we have at our school.

“This leads well into our focus for 2021, with high quality teaching and learning at the forefront of our year,” Ms Bowker said.

“Another highlight has also been our selection for the Primary Maths and Science Specialist Initiative that will allow two teachers at our school to be released from their classrooms for two days per week to train as Maths Specialists.

“In this role they will extend and develop their knowledge, skills and capabilities in Mathematics which they will then share and develop this knowledge throughout our school, to all teachers and within classrooms to lead whole school change.

“To be selected to be part of this program is a real coup for our school as it acknowledges the high standard of commitment that our teachers have to developing themselves and their students.

“This program will begin in March and we can’t wait to start.”
