Wet and wild junior footy - U14 Red
Final score: PI Red - 6.17(53) to Korumburra - 2.3(15).
With a wet and rainy undermanned side, the Dogs knew they had a big game ahead of them against Korumburra.
Charlie Fischer started out in the ruck and did his best against a very strong opponent in the first quarter.
It seemed like the ball was in our forward-half most of the quarter which allowed the pups to get a couple of cheeky points through but somehow Korumburra got the ball back down to their side scoring a couple of matching points.
With no wings, the midfield really had to push hard and by the second quarter with Felix Bathgate in the ruck, you could tell the pups were getting tired with all the extra running.
This didn’t slow our pups down enough, with a great play from Zach Hughes to Archer Bailey allowed Arch to score a point which locked it in our 50 and Charlie was able to get a goal through.
Ethan Rhee and Felix finishing the quarter with a few extra points leaving the second quarter ahead.
The third quarter brought Korumburra out fighting for their home ground, they were determined to use the wind to their advantage bringing the scores very close!
By the end of the third quarter the scores were only a few points apart, but this didn’t slow our pups down.
With a revised line up and a determined Phillip Island they brought the fourth quarter home with the help from some bottom age players playing up – Jaxon Marshall and Zane Larsson fought with their fellow pups resulting in Zane kicking a great goal for the U14s.
A memorable moment from the game where Brydon Marshall kicked up from the ground straight into Ethan Rhee’s waiting hands to have Ethan follow through with another goal for the Island.
The final quarter had point after point ending in a great win for Phillip Island Reds.
