Woodlands inspired exhibition coming soon
Ray Dahlstrom's Naturally Iconic is part of the Woodlands Exhibition. Entries close on June 14 and the exhibition will be held at the Goods Shed, Wonthaggi, from June 21 - 23.

"If you go down to the woodlands today you're in for a big surprise ..."

That's the theme of an art prize and exhibition celebrating the Western Port Woodlands between Lang Lang and Grantville.

The surprise could be the beauty of walking in these woodlands, which so few people know about.

It could be the rare animals found in the woodlands, including southern brown bandicoots, powerful owls and two-metre lace monitors.

Or it could be the fact that 10 sand mines currently operate in this wildlife corridor, with several more approved.

Save Western Port Woodlands is offering $2500 in prize money. All art works will be for sale - including online - with 40 per cent commission as the artist's contribution to the campaign.

Curator Ellen Hubble says the theme has already prompted some interesting responses, with artists heading for the woodlands for inspiration.

"So many of our local artists reflect the natural world in their work and many are currently responding to support efforts to protect our special local places."

Established and emerging artists are invited to enter, and works in a variety of mediums, techniques and styles are welcome.

Entries close on June 14 and the exhibition will be held at the Goods Shed, Wonthaggi, from June 21 - 23.
