Youth Girls clinch victory over Drouin

In a remarkable display of resilience and teamwork, the Phillip Island Youth Girls football team secured a thrilling victory over their Drouin counterparts in a recent Gippsland showdown.

Despite facing the challenge with just 13 players on the field, the Phillip Island girls led by captain Jade, exhibited sheer determination to emerge triumphant.

Using their pace and skill the island girls looked on from the first bounce.

Macey Stubbs once again stepping up in the ruck, was getting our girls first use of the ball from the centre and Jade Ricardo, Miki Leary and Lily O'Loughlin were making the most of it.

Brinkley Nicolaci once again found herself in the right position up forward slotting her first goal of the day, while Kyra Carton had grown in confidence after last week and was taking marks and kicking goals.

Maddy Leed played her first game with the Youth Girls and was dominant around the ground as was her partner in crime Gemma Fischer.

Teirlin Hamley ran hard all day, attacking the ball and shepherding for her teammates.

Tahlia Jessup and Georgia Niven used their bodies well to win the ball, while Lily "Elbow" Bow was consistently in the right position and won the ball continuously for the team.

There were many great link up passages of play from the girls, one in particular that started from the back line with Tess and Jade Ricardo combining to get the ball moving forward which resulted in a goal.

This victory holds particular significance as it comes on the heels of the team's struggle to field a full squad just two weeks prior. It underscores the dedication and passion of these young athletes, who are not only making their mark in the sport but also paving the way for the future of women's football in the region.

The thrilling clash serves as a testament to the growing popularity and competitiveness of female football in Gippsland.
