Road renewal at Ventnor
2 min read

Works have begun on road renewal along Berrys Beach Road.

Bass Coast Shire Council said it appointed SR Excavations Pty Ltd to carry out the Stage 2 works on Berrys Beach Road, Ventnor.

The previous stage was completed in July 2022.

Council stated work should be completed by late June, subject to favourable weather, contractor and supplier availability.

“The aim of the project is to ensure the rural road network is safe and sustainable for the community into the future and appropriate levels of service are maintained.”

What to expect

Traffic signs will be installed and vegetation cleared in the initial phase of the project.

Council said this included approved vegetation clearing (from the edge of road to open swale) associated with the drainage works, and that all approvals, permits, consents and vegetation offsets have been secured.

The open swale drains will be trimmed, shaped and graded to improve drainage flows.

Nine hundred metres of road pavement will be renewed, “by adding crush rock overlay and foam bitumen stabilisation to the existing road pavement”.

“Foam bitumen stabilisation is a road construction technique whereby bitumen is used to bind the existing or imported pavement material to produce a flexible pavement material, particularly for road rehabilitation,” the council stated.

The project will also include road spray sealing works, including line marking and other associated road infrastructure works.

“Appropriate traffic control measures will be in place during these works,” said Council.

“A full road closure between the roundabout on Ventnor Beach Road and Ventnor Road will be required for the stabilisation works. This is expected to occur from April 15 until May 10.”

There will be road detours in place.

“We ask road users to plan their journey due to the road closure and detours. Please obey and follow all detours and traffic control measures onsite.

“Variable Message Signs (VMS) will be placed onsite to inform road users of the upcoming works. As always, local and emergency vehicle access to properties will be maintained at all times.”

This project is part of Council’s 2023/24 Capital Works Program and is jointly funded by the Local Roads and Community Infrastructure Program (LRCIP) Phase 4A ($624,000) and Bass Coast Shire Council ($226,000). The total cost of this project is in the order of $850,000.
