53 years in the making
It was a historic day for the Panthers.
Kilcunda-Bass has capped off an outstanding season by claiming its first A Grade netball premiership in 53 years, defeating Korumburra-Bena 65–41 in Saturday’s Grand Final at Garfield.
The Panthers produced a strong four-quarter performance on the biggest stage, taking control of the contest and refusing to allow Korumburra-Bena back into the game.
Goal shooter Emma Ryde was outstanding under the ring, finishing with an incredible 59 goals in a dominant Grand Final display.
Ryde was well supported by playing co-coach Erin Bell, while the Panthers’ defensive pressure across the court made life difficult for their opponents.
The victory completed a remarkable undefeated season for Kilcunda-Bass, with the A Grade side going through the entire year without dropping a game.
For co-coaches Erin Bell and Kate Sidebottom and their players, the premiership was the reward for a season of consistency and hard work and ended a wait stretching all the way back to 1973.
It was a historic day for the Panthers and a premiership that will be celebrated at Kilcunda-Bass for many years to come.
