Bulldogs fall short in one-point thriller
The final quarter was a thrilller.
Phillip Island has gone down by the narrowest of margins, falling to Warragul by just one point in a hard-fought senior clash.
The Bulldogs made a strong start, taking a two-point lead into quarter time before holding a one-point advantage at the main break.
With neither side able to gain the upper hand after half-time, the scores were locked at 43-all at the final change.
The final quarter was a thrilller, with Phillip Island holding a slight lead for much of the term before Warragul kicked the decisive goal in the closing minutes to snatch the victory.
It was a spirited performance from the Bulldogs, who matched Warragul all day and can take plenty of confidence from the way they competed.
Beau Davies and Brady Ross were outstanding in defence, continually breakingup Warragul’s attacks and providing plenty of drive from the back half.
The Bulldogs’ best players were Beau Davies, Brady Ross, Max Walton, Connor Thompson, Hayden Bruce and Cameron Pedersen, all making valuable contributions in a contest that could have gone either way.
Despite the disappointing result, Phillip Island showed plenty of character and will look to carry that form into next week’s match.
