The Cape Paterson Aquathon, scheduled for Sunday January 18, has been postponed due to hazardous ocean and weather conditions.

"This decision has not been made lightly and follows a careful assessment of conditions in consultation with the Lifesaving Operations Team at Cape Paterson Surf Life Saving Club," said Race Director Kevin Barry.

"The safety of competitors, volunteers and water safety personnel remains our highest priority.

"We acknowledge the significant preparation undertaken by participants, volunteers and supporters, and sincerely thank everyone for their understanding and cooperation.

"Further information, including a rescheduled event date, will be communicated as soon as possible."

Mr Barry said all registered participants will be contacted directly.

The Cape Paterson Aquathon was to be the first event in this year's Bass Coast Series, followed by the Cowes Classic on January 31 and the San Remo Channel Challenge on February 21.
