Acclaimed local artists David Taylor, Diana Edwards and Tom Tyrell have combined their talents to present another special art exhibition in Cowes in January, at the Iluka Studio Gallery in Silverleaves.

Titled “Colour and Light” the exhibition will open on New Year’s Day (January 1) and run daily from 10am to 4.30pm pm until January 30.

The annual Iluka Gallery exhibition is a “must” on the local events calendar and continues to grow in popularity every year.

Now in its fourth year, well over 100 water colours painted by the trio over the last 12 months will be on display, featuring the natural beauty of Phillip Island, Bass Coast and beyond.

The works, all for sale, are framed and unframed, which will be particularly convenient for travellers.

David is a world acclaimed water colour artist, and Diana qualified for Artist of the Year entry at the Australian Guild of Realist Artists last year.

Tom Tyrell is well known for the magnificent local landscapes and seascapes he produces.

David and Diana opened the Iluka Art Studio in 2014 after moving to Phillip Island and teamed up with Tom Tyrell in the ensuing years to stage their first joint exhibition in 2019.

The friendship extends to the golf course, and the trio regularly enjoy painting expeditions together.

They describe their work as realist impressionism, and themselves as “en plein air” artists, who love to paint outdoors in the landscape.

They seek out places of natural beauty, of which there are plenty in our local environment, with some stunning work from vantage points on Scenic Estate part of the exhibition this year.

The three travel much further afield independently as well, drawing inspiration from each place they visit.

David and Diana give art classes in their Iluka Studio in Silverleaves. Students are also taken along on painting field trips, with classes limited to ten. New students are always welcome.

This coming year will see David also conducting workshops for students along the Murray River, and at several Queensland locations.

He continues to work internationally, recently winning a prestigious Malaysian award, with entrants from 63 countries.

Visitors to the exhibition can spend time in the surrounding spacious and shady garden, and enjoy a glass of wine or tea and coffee in between viewing the art work on display.

Greeting cards featuring a selection of prints will also be available, both individually and in sets.

Iluka Studio Gallery: 28 Settlement Road Cowes. Phone: 0427 947 889.

“Color and Light” opens on January 1 and runs daily 10am and 4.30 pm until January 30.
