Community invited to shape the future of water

Westernport Water is inviting customers to help shape the region's water future by joining a Customer Panel to inform the 2027 Urban Water Strategy.
The strategy will guide how Westernport Water secures a safe, reliable and sustainable water supply over the next 50 years for communities, businesses and the environment across Bass Coast and Phillip Island.
As our region grows and the climate becomes hotter and drier, demand for water is increasing while less water is flowing into our storages.
To prepare for the future, Westernport Water is exploring a mix of water conservation, smarter water use and alternative water sources.
"The decisions we make today will help secure the region's water future for generations to come," said Dona Tantirimudalige, Managing Director Westernport Water.
"That's why it's important we hear from customers about what matters most to them.
"The Customer Panel will explore the opportunities and trade-offs involved in planning for the future, including different water supply options, drought preparedness and balancing affordability with water security.
"The feedback we receive from customers will directly inform our 2027 Urban Water Strategy and 2028 Price Submission."
Panel members will take part in an interactive workshop on Thursday August 13, from 6.30pm to 8.30pm (on-line or at Newhaven), where they will learn about the region's water supply, future challenges and potential solutions before sharing their views on key planning decisions.
Westernport Water is seeking customers aged 16 years and over from across its service area.
Applications are encouraged from people of all backgrounds and lived experiences, including Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples, culturally and linguistically diverse communities, people living with disability, members of the LGBTIQA+ community, young people and older adults.
Reasonable adjustments and accessibility support are available to ensure everyone can participate.
Participants will receive a $100 Westernport Water bill credit in recognition of their time and contribution.
Expressions of interest are now open.
