Island girls battle tough conditions on the court

B Grade

In cold and wet conditions, a focused and determined Phillip Island B Grade fought a closely contested game against Warragul.

The Island secured a strong lead throughout the first half.

Goalers, Aisha and Meika shot with accuracy and handled the physicality of the Warragul defenders with maturity.

The defensive efforts of Island and Maddy in the midcourt were superb - helping to win a lot of ball for the Island.

Positional changes for Warragul saw a change in intensity during the second half.

Warragul clawed back the lead, resulting in level scores during the fourth quarter.

Patient feeding from the Island's midcourters helped settle the team.

Phillip Island remained composed and held on to take the win 45-43.

Best on court: Isla Cousins and Jess Gysberts.

D Grade

The Island's D Grade team celebrated a thrilling victory against the Warragul Dusties with a final score of 38-32, marking their highest-scoring game of the season.

Demonstrating outstanding teamwork, the girls secured their win early, holding the lead throughout the game.

Piper O'Brien made her debut in the senior competition, contributing to the team's success.

A special recognition went to Jane and Stacey, who earned on-court awards for their consistent teamwork and exceptional passing.

U13s

On Saturday, the Island U13 girls faced Warragul, aiming for a decisive victory.

The game commenced at a fast pace, with the Island girls demonstrating strong play and leading by one point in the first quarter.

At halftime, the score remained tight with the Island girls ahead 7-6.

By the third quarter, the scores were nearly level and in the final quarter, Warragul managed to score 10 goals to the Island girls' seven, ultimately winning by a single point.

Macy and Eden excelled in their performance, earning awards for their efforts, despite enduring several elbows during the game.
