Island girls master horrific conditions
This week's Phillip Island LDNA netball reports.
U13 Red
In freezing, slippery and wildly windy conditions, Saturday saw Phillip Island Red up against Inverloch Kongwak Red (who currently sit second on the LDNA ladder).
The Island Red took a minute to settle in the first quarter, but as the centres continued, they found their rhythm and began to show yet again what a strong team they are.
After some reassurance during quarter time, the girls came back onto court in the second quarter with a fire in their belly.
Smooth passes and a synchronised dance between Georgie and Hazel in the midcourt feeding the ball seamlessly into Aliza and Madi in the circle, the Island began to take a strong lead into half time.
By the third quarter Inverloch Kongwak Red stood no chance against the constant intercepts and rejections dealt by the Island Red's formidable defence line of Miranda, Sera and Alexis, resulting in Inverloch Kongwak finding it impossible to score during the last half of the game.
Scores: Phillip Island Red: 13 def Inverloch Kongwak Red: 6.
U13 White
On a chilly Saturday morning, Phillip Island White took on the Mount Eccles White team in a tight game, with scores close right up to the final siren.
From the first centre pass, the girls showed excellent passing, fantastic leading, great footwork and accurate goal shooting in gusty winds.
The Island defenders had a tough job against some tall shooters but persisted to create some great turnovers.
Ruby conquered in the centre, covering the court with maximum effort and style.
Alana showed great skill, teamwork and movement in order to get the ball to the goals.
Sage and Lavinia worked well in WD, limiting the oppositions attackers.
Olive and Mila displayed excellent teamwork in the ring and great rebounds to keep the Island's tally rising.
Defenders, Evie and Marley were persistent to keep the ball in the Island's possession.
The team would like to thank West Gippsland girls, Mila, Olive, Sage and Marley for assisting in filling the gaps each week.
Best on court: Alana, Olive and Mila.
Scores: Phillip Island White: 19 def Mt Eccles White: 16.
