Island struggles as Stars shine

A Grade

Scores: Phillip Island: 42 def by Garfield: 46.

B Grade

Scores: Phillip Island: 28 def by Garfield: 34.

C Grade

The Island's battle against Garfield has proved to be one for the books.

Despite the adverse conditions and the tough loss, the team fought hard.

Rachel Cameron and Kate William were strong in defence with their stellar rebounds.

Down the attacking end, Ruby Anderson and Elisha Johnson worked hard, pulling up excellent goals.

Additionally, rotating throughout the midcourt, Steph Krainer, Rach Maddox and Abbey Clarke gained many turnovers, with Nikki Williams assisting across the court.

D Grade

In harsh conditions, the Island's D Grade endured a challenging clash against Garfield on Saturday.

Battling through persistent rain and the bitter cold, the Island struggled, missing crucial opportunities throughout the first quarter resulting in their setback for the remainder of the game.

Despite their efforts to catch up, Garfield maintained their lead in which the weather continued to pose a challenge for both teams.

Despite the defeat, Sarah and Brodie were recognised for their consistent gameplay and communication on the court.

U17s

In unfavourable conditions and missing team members, the Island's clash against Garfield proved to be a tough one.

The first quarter looked promising - the Island were only down by one goal, however, the second slowly crept away resulting in the Island sitting three goals down.

Luck was not on the Island's side, bad passes, slips on the wet court, missed goals and fumbling of the ball saw Garfield well and truly in front by the end of the third quarter.

Best on court: Abby Papas and Elly Hennessy.

U15s

The Island U15s got off to a strong start against Garfield with a multitude of strong turnovers.

Aisha and Adelle moved well and were accurate in the goals, whilst midcourters Ava, Maisie, Isla and Piper proved relentless with their pressure down the court.

In defence, Tilly and Ellie were strong, covering the Garfield goalers well.

Stepping up from the U13s, Macy Piera displayed strong potential with her movement and accuracy in the goals for the last half of the match.

Best on court: Aisha and Ava.

U13s

The Island U13s travelled to Garfield in frosty conditions for their morning match.

They were pleased to welcome back three favourite players after a refreshing school holiday break.

In what proved to be a scrappy game, the team struggled to regain their rhythm after time off.

Kate worked in the centre, and Abi and Frankie in the goals - despite putting in their best efforts they were unable to get their shooting on track, scoring only two goals throughout both the first and second quarters.

Unfortunately, time would run out, rendering a loss for the Island girls by a narrow five points.

Best on court: Eden and Ella.

U11s

In challenging weather conditions, the Island U11s showcased their remarkable resilience.

Despite frozen hands, the girls triumphed over Garfield with a score of 20-3.

Their determination and refusal to give up were evident throughout the match, highlighting their toughness and skill.

Best on court: Frankie and Marley for their unwavering determination throughout the game.
