Pick up your Seniors Festival booklet and start planning your October.
The Victorian Seniors Festival is back from October 1 to 31, celebrating the contribution older Victorians make to our communities and encouraging everyone to Connect, Create and Celebrate.

I'm always impressed by the variety of activities on offer across Bass Coast, and this year is no exception. Whether you're interested in chair Pilates, guided wildlife walks, historical bus tours, ancestor discovery sessions, pickleball, gardening or arts workshops, why not give it a go?

I'm also proud that Bass Coast Shire Council is supporting another fantastic program of local events through our Seniors Festival micro grants, helping community groups cover costs such as activities, catering, transport and promotion so more people can get involved.

Bass Coast Cultural Venues are getting in on the fun too, with the return of the Victorian State Orchestra, a much-loved festival favourite, alongside Hall Stories with Damian Callinan at Woodleigh Hall. If you've ever wondered about the characters, traditions and stories hidden within our country halls, this promises to be a night full of laughter and local storytelling.

Don't forget that Victorian Seniors Card holders can also take advantage of free public transport during the statewide festival period, making it even easier to get out, explore and enjoy everything on offer.

One of the things I love most about the Seniors Festival is that it celebrates positive ageing. It recognises that our older residents continue to contribute enormously to the life of our communities as volunteers, mentors, carers, leaders, neighbours and friends.

So my challenge to you is simple: pick up a booklet, circle a few events, maybe call a friend and give something new a try. You might learn a new skill, discover a hidden interest or simply enjoy some great company.
