Newhaven College's Junior School students dazzled on stage
Newhaven College's Junior School students dazzled on stage in their performance of The World is Yours, with every one of the 257 students, from Prep to Year 4, participating.
Talented duo of Nina and David Prideaux, directed the show and were responsible for writing the scripts and lyrics, composing the music and choreographing the performances. Every one of the 257 students, from Prep to Year 4, participated.
The Junior School production offers every child an invaluable opportunity to perform in front of an audience.
The World is Yours is a toe-tapping adventure where Betsy discovers courage, friendship and an unexpected love of reading. Betsy hates reading, believing books are boring, dusty and filled with too many words.
But when her mother encourages her to read a strange, magical book, Betsy is whisked into a series of exciting adventures, exploring enchanted forests and meeting characters who need her help.
Each chapter teaches her that stories can be exciting, surprising and full of magic. By the final page, Betsy discovers a love of reading she never knew she had.
Staff, students and parents worked diligently to bring the final production to life, putting in many hours throughout the term to make the show a reality. Students dedicated their lunchtimes and after-school hours to rehearsing, memorising lines and perfecting songs. Junior School parents generously volunteered their time to organise props and costumes.
Many of the sets were built in the College's Trade Centre, expanding students' skills. The live music, performed by College staff, completed the overall performance with style.
Head of Junior School, Cath Huther, was thrilled with the final performances.
"We are so fortunate to have such a dedicated dynamic duo in Nina and David Prideaux," she said.
"The production gives every child the chance to shine in front of an audience, building on the performance skills our students develop naturally through school life.
"Congratulations to our Junior School students on a stellar effort. The talent on display from every class was exceptional, and the performances were thoroughly enjoyed by all."
