No SUP titles this year
The 2020 Hyundai Australian SUP Titles scheduled to run from November 10 – 14 on Phillip Island have been cancelled.
The 2020 Hyundai Australian SUP Titles presented by SAE Group which were scheduled to run from November 10 – 14 on Phillip Island have been cancelled.
Surfing Australia said they continued to follow the latest government advice on Covid restrictions and their priority was “the health, wellbeing and safety of our competitors, staff and spectators”.
It said the safety of all involved was at the forefront of the decision to cancel the highly regarded Hyundai Australian SUP Titles.
Surfing Australia CEO Chris Mater said: “Sadly 2020 has now seen the cancellation of several of our prestigious National Titles events in this COVID-19 environment, the Hyundai Australian SUP Titles being the second cancellation on our calendar.
“We look forward to rescheduling the event in 2021, again on the epic Phillip Island.”
Last year, the top paddlers in the country descended on the Island for a four-day event which attracted over 150 competitors. 2019 was the first time the event had been hosted in Victoria.
At the time, Surfing Victoria CEO, Adam Robertson said the event was a great opportunity for the Victorian SUP community to compete in their home state.
“Phillip Island is an amazing area for SUP and one of the most pristine locations in Australia. We are lucky to have access to a wide variety of waves and locations for the event which will no doubt allow the competitors to score some epic waves and great paddling conditions.”
Kai Bates (NSW) took out the Open Men’s title, with Terrene Black (NSW) winning the Open Women.
