Plenty of action at the Daly courts for A Grade

A tough day with Phillip Island missing three key defenders this weekend. However, with challenge comes opportunity.

This game was a great demonstration of the Island’s strong junior netball program and recent successes flowing through to senior netball.

Saturday saw the A Grade debut of 18-year-old Isla Cousins in wing defence where she held her own and applied strong pressure on the opposition.

Isla’s impact combined with the grit and determination of other young players in Maya Huther, Lexi Walton, Lily Mewett, Sophie Gysberts (stepping up from B Grade to support) and Ella Duggan, all under 20-years of age kept the game within reach across the four quarters.

The game was fast paced and competitive with flashes of brilliance and several players playing out of their normal positions.

Phillip Island fought hard but were unable to pull back an early lead that Dalyston established in the first quarter with great play and their high goal conversion rate.

The Island’s A Grade will now regroup for a home game this weekend against Garfield and ensure they get back on the winning side of the result table.

Scores: Dalyston: 59 def Phillip Island: 46.
