The oche was alive with tension and excitement this week as the Phillip Island and Districts Darts League staged one of its most anticipated events on the calendar — the Doubles Championship.

A strong field of 15 pairings stepped forward, each hoping to carve their names into the club’s honour board and lift the coveted trophy.

The format, a cutthroat knockout best of three series, leading into a best-of-five final, ensured only the most consistent and composed combinations would survive.

As the competition unfolded, several familiar names rose to the surface.
Among them, the formidable father-and-son duo of David and Andrew Healey, who previously claimed the title in 2021.

David, a multiple-time champion with various partners, brought experience and calm under pressure.

Equally impressive was Paul Gleeson, a past winner in 2018 and 2023, this time teaming up with Mark “Noddy” Nelson in a bid for another title.

After the preliminaries, the stage was set for a gripping final that had spectators on edge from the first dart.

The opening leg was a tight, dart-for-dart contest, eventually edging in favour of the Healeys.

The second leg followed a similar script before the night erupted — David Healey pinning a spectacular 180, the first of the evening, sending the crowd into a frenzy.

Despite a determined fightback from Gleeson and Nelson, the Healeys maintained their composure.

In the third leg, with the pressure mounting, David stepped up once more to deliver a clinical 134 checkout, sealing both the leg and the championship in emphatic fashion.

Off the oche, the ever-popular San Remo Butchers meat tray raffle added to the night’s festivities, with Peter taking home the major prize, while Shannon and Chris shared in the minors.

Attention now turns to Round five of the championship season, where ladder positions will tighten and rivalries intensify.

The winners of the ever-popular raffle were from left to right, Chris, Peter, and Shannon.
