Wintry conditions for Midweek bowls
35 points and the only two game victors were: Mick Shears (S), Max Summers (3) Shirley Corcoran (2) and Bob Shores (L).
The San Remo Bowling club hosted 32 bowlers who played in the Southwest Gippsland Midweek Bowls Group weekly social competition on Thursday, May 6 despite the cold wintry conditions.
Players were signed in by President John Nicholson while Bev and Vern Elliott arranged the teams.
With a bitterly cold gusty wind blowing across the green conditions were very challenging.
This coupled with our first dose of a winter chill meant that the standard of bowls was probably not at the usual high level.
A couple of downpours also tested patience causing intermittent delays to the bowling.
35 points and the only two game victors were: Mick Shears (S), Max Summers (3) Shirley Corcoran (2) and Bob Shores (L).
Runners up on a score of 26 points were: Peter Taylor (2),Claire Shears (3) Jaye Allen-Dayle (S) & Bob Arnold (L).
Best One Game winners with 19 points were: Jim Noonan (L), Vern Elliott (S), Cheryl Floyd (3) and Andrew Gutteridge (2).
Special thanks to John Nicholson for setting up the green, Bobby Arnold, Mick Shears and Richard Curnock for manning the bar and to Bev Elliott, Jaye Allen-Dayle and Claire Shears for looking after the kitchen.
The next game of bowls will be on Thursday, May 13 at Kooweerup Bowling Club.
Please be on site by 10am to allow time to prepare the teams.
Hopefully conditions will be a little more favourable allowing our usual number of bowlers to be in attendance.
