This 2025 French comedy is a glorious ode to cinema.
"It's fresh, informative and very entertaining.
The title means New Wave and this superb film is set in Paris at the dawn of the French New Wave," explains club secretary Margaret Byrne.
"Film makers such as Truffaut and Chabrol were making groundbreaking cinema and then Jean-Luc Godard who was a respected critic from the magazine Cashiers du Cinema joined them."
This film is about the making of Godard's classic film Breathless in 1959.
"He had little funding and filmed in Paris over 20 days and he broke all the rules of film about continuity and not crossing the centre line (which means the cameras must stay on the same side of the centre in filming a scene as this ensures the characters will be seen to be looking at each other).
"He was intent on making films quickly and with passion."
American director Richard Linklater captures the spirit and excitement of the time expertly.
Shot in black and white he shows the energy and daring of the making of this celebrated film.
"You will appreciate this film more if you watch Breathless either before or after seeing Nouvelle Vague as you will understand how amazing the end product was with relatively no script, breaking all filmic rules and little money," said Margaret.
"In the film you will see the actors talking to each other as it is being screened because all their sound was being cut and their voices were dubbed later in the studio.
"Jean Seberg had starred in many American and European films and you can imagine her despair about the sound and at having a limited script ... evolving as the scenes were shot.
It is a film where you feel like you are watching a documentary."
Please note the film begins at 7.30pm sharp.
The film runs for 106 minutes and is rated M.
It is a private event and you must present your PIMC membership ticket and your Trybooking receipt to enter.
Please be considerate and cancel your ticket through Berninneit if you find you are unable to attend.
