U13 Red

The sun was shining in Leongatha last Saturday (April 20) for the Phillip Island U13 Red's first hit on the court for the LDNA Winter season.

As the first whistle blew the island girls were on fire. With smooth passes and steady game play the island showed they were a strong team.

The midcourt players showed solid attack and defence to ensure that every island centre resulted in a goal, giving the team a robust lead from the start.

The second quarter continued much the same, with the gritty defence skills of Georgie, Sera, Sophia and Miranda easily ensuring the ball continued to meet with Aliza and Madison in goals.

With smart play and technique, the girls went shot for shot every time the ball reached their hands, securing a lead into half time that saw the girls smiling brightly.

The second half saw a shuffle of positions, allowing the girls to experience more of the court, proving a brilliant decision by coach Trish as the team continued to show what solid players they all are.

Alexis was a force to be reckoned with as she flew around the court in both attack and defence positions.

Hazel and Madison teamed up in goals for the final quarter and displayed their strength in shooting, along with confident teamwork and outstanding game play, further increasing the score until the final whistle.

Everyone on the island team should be proud of themselves, not just for a brilliant game but for such incredible teamwork and camaraderie.
Best on court: Madison King and Alexis Osabutey.
Scores: Phillip Island: 41 def Mt Eccles: 12.

U13 White

The U13s island team had a ripper first game for the season with a win over Inverloch.

Mid court had a tough job with some strong players for Inverloch. Levinia, Alana, Mila and Ruby did an outstanding job and were able to come out on top with strong passes and great drives moving the ball down to our goalers.

Goalers, Ellie and Willow were on point with a truly fabulous display of ring work and spot on goals that helped us open the scoring gap by the second quarter.

Evie and Olive in defence showed incredible skill and teamwork resulting in pressure and turnovers.

An excellent first game to kick of the LDNA season.
Best on court: Ruby and Evie.
Scores: Phillip Island: 14 def Inverloch Kongwak: 6.

U13 Blue

In their first game of the season the U13s team played Fish Creek.

There were a few nerves to start off with but as the game went on, the girls came together and found their groove.

The defence did a wonderful job at keeping the score down and all girls fought hard in the final two quarters to bring the game back to within one point.
Best on court: Brylie Peterson and Evie Kimber.
Scores: Fish Creek: 6 def Phillip Island: 5.
