U12B Sharks
The Sharks were running low on energy on Saturday, going down to Trafalgar after a determined effort under difficult circumstances.
Already missing a player, the team suffered two injuries during the match, leaving just eight players on the field.
In the second half, one of our top strikers stepped into goals, with Zac's cat-like reflexes producing a series of outstanding saves.
Despite being a player short in defence, the Sharks never gave up, with remaining defenders and newer teammates stepping up when it mattered most.
Man of the Match went to Rocky, whose improvement was on full display with strong defensive efforts, excellent crosses and determined attacking runs.
His positive attitude and resilience never wavered.
The Sharks also earned praise from Trafalgar supporters for their clean, competitive, and respectful style of play.
After the school holiday break, the team will be eager to return at full strength.
Best: Rocky - Man of the Match.
Score: Trafalgar 4 def PI 2
U12A Penguins
It was cold and foggy morning for Phillip Island Breakers U12A Penguins' home game against Inverloch Stars.
The chill factor and low visibility didn't impact skilled performances by Marlo, Darcy, and Carter, setting Lincoln up to produce four goals in the first half, with Carter contributing to a 5-0 lead at half-time.
Defenders Elliott and Zac, and goalkeeper Tyler, spoiled Inverloch's determined attempts at reaching the goal in the first half.
Again, clever passing and precise teamwork by Lewis and Banksia in the second half saw four more goals scored by Phillip Island's Woody, Carter, and Lincoln after a strong initial attacking attempt by Inverloch.
A very unlucky own goal by Inverloch's goalkeeper, after a magnificent save, contributed a fifth to end the game on a win to Phillip Island.
Best: Carter's overall contributions earned him best on ground.
Score: Penguins 10 def Inverloch 0.
U14 Penguins
Penguins took on Stingrays in the Phillip Island derby.
Goal scorers included Wesley Gijsbers, Blair McDonald, Blake Lewindon and Callum Lee.
The team played a good game, competent in all thirds of the pitch, only giving way to three great team goals.
Stingrays broke the U14s down effectively, and on the counter were electric.
Still, the team held its own, giving back every bit it received.
In the first half, Wil Mirabito started as goalkeeper and among other good saves he made a great one late in the first half to keep the margin down to one goal.
Wes and Flynn were magnificent as always, and Jack Mannix played a brilliant game both in goal and outfield.
Player of the Match went to Jack Mannix for his versatility and great performance.
Best: Wesley Gijsbers, Flynn Jury, Jack Mannix, Wil Mirabito, and Mitchell Thomas.
Score: Stingrays 3 def Penguins 2.
U14 Stingrays
The Stingrays met the Penguins on a fresh Sunday morning at their home ground out on a pitch that was barely visible due to fog.
This didn't stop anyone getting straight into it, with Blair scoring the Stingrays first goal early in the match.
Other goal kickers for the day were Blake and Callum, and Wesley for the Penguins.
Plenty of great passing, footwork, and some nice trifecta head-butts from newbie Autumn.
Shoutouts to Jordy for best on ground, and Callum as captain.
Both teams brought a great game for the spectators, and the sun cracked through the fog just in time to see the last ten minutes out.
Best: Jordy, Callum, Blair, and Manny.
Score: Stingrays 3 def Penguins 2.
