Revellers kick up their heels!
Friends of Churchill Island (FOCIS) held a successful Bush Dance in the Shearing Shed at Churchill Island.
On a glorious sunny day at the start of November, Friends of Churchill Island (FOCIS) held a successful Bush Dance in the Shearing Shed at Churchill Island.
Supplying the music was the well renowned and loved band from Melbourne, The Blackberry Jam Bush Band.
With decades of experience, it didn’t take long for the band to get everyone up onto the floor.
All the dances were “called”, with the audience, which ranged in age from five to 85, quickly getting into the spirit of things.
All abilities were catered for, and any missteps were greeted with love and laughter.
“There was lots of laughter and happy, smiling faces, and with the help of the Caller, soon everyone mastered the dances,” said FOCIS’ Pauline Taylor.
“During one break we were treated to a Saw Music piece and towards the end we were all delighted to listen to the Didgeridoo – absolutely awesome.”

Many people brought picnics which enhanced the family feel of the afternoon.
“All of this set against the backdrop of the magnificence of Churchill Island. What more could you hope for,” asked Pauline.
It wasn’t just the humans having fun. The dancers noticed resident peacock “Andrew” was strutting his stuff by the door.
“He looked to be enjoying the music as he dipped and shook his glorious tail feathers in time to the music.”
By 7pm everyone had headed home, with smiling faces and humming some bush tunes.
“I would like to take this opportunity to thank all staff and volunteers for all the hard work they put into ensuring that this event went off so well,” said Pauline.
“It was a truly memorable day.”
